Oracle DBA

Position Purpose: We are looking for a highly skilled Oracle DBA to join a team supporting the worlds leading person-to-person betting exchange. Key Responsibilities/Duties - Day to day support of the production and pre-production database environments.
- Planning and implementing database upgrades.
- Provide out of hours support on an on-call basis - this involves on site cover on Saturday
as part of a rota. - Performing upgrades and installations out of hours/weekends.
- Assisting other DBAs in the team to build and scale databases for growth, security, and resilience.
Experience & Qualifications - 7 years Production Oracle DBA experience ( which must include Oracle 9i and 10g ).
- 5 years experience of high volume, on line, 24 * 7 * 365 Unix systems in a financial, telecoms, internet based trading or similar environment.
- 5 years experience of Enterprise Class Unix servers.
Personal Attributes - Able to cope within a highly pressurised, mission critical environment.
- Able to take ownership of support issues and progress through to resolution.
- Willing to be a key part of the database team, and ready to work with other teams including developers, networks and system admins.
- Able to build communication with those teams.
- Able to project manage work, and prioritise effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and team ethos.
- Self motivated, self starter.
Technical Skills & Attributes Essential - Experience of SQL, PL/SQL, Unix shell scripting.
- Experience of cluster technologies ( VCS ).
- Experience of Oracle RAC.
- Database monitoring tools.
- Performance analysis and tuning.
- Backup & recovery technologies ( RMAN, Dataguard, Veritas ) .
Desirable - Sun Solaris.
- Oracle on Linux
- Perl.
- Knowledge of Quest software toolset ( Shareplex, Toad ).
- OEM.
